The District of Columbia’s Childcare Subsidy Program is critical infrastructure for children, families, the local workforce, and the District’s early care and education system. More than 7,000 DC families currently rely on subsidies to afford childcare that would otherwise be financially out of reach. The program also supports the financial stability of the 303 licensed child development facilities that participate—these facilities represent 67% of all licensed childcare programs in the District. By helping families afford care and providers maintain enrollment, the subsidy program enables parents to work and pursue education, children to receive high-quality early learning opportunities, and providers to operate viable, stable, and enriching programs.
