We are excited to announce that DC NEXT!–formally known as the DC Network for Expectant and Parenting Teens–is now housed at DC Action.

DC NEXT! focuses on the dynamic needs of expectant and parenting youth by centering young people in a multi-level, two-generation systems approach. As a data-driven network that focuses on intentional and collaborative youth engagement, DC NEXT! aligns perfectly with DC Action’s youth advocacy efforts.

Originally created by the District of Columbia Primary Care Association, Children’s National Hospital, and Howard University, along with dozens of other District of Columbia nonprofits, DC NEXT! was designed to build a network of organizations that meet the unique needs of expectant and parenting teens. Recognizing that the voices of young people are central to the success of any effort to support them, DC Next! is led in part by the Context Team, a group of young parents who guide the network’s agenda and activities.

Beginning in January 2024, DC Action will support the policy goals identified by DC NEXT! in their 2023 Childcare for Young Parents Report and Young Parent Well-Being Survey Report in our advocacy work. We will incorporate the results of these reports into DC KIDS COUNT and the advocacy strategies of DC Action’s Home Visiting Council, Under 3 DC Coalition, and Youth Economic Justice and Housing Coalition.

We are honored to work in partnership with members of the DC NEXT! network to continue DC NEXT!’s work as we collectively advocate for a better District for all children, young people, and families.
