The more than 500 District families and concerned residents who visited Senate offices today and the waves of hundreds more throughout the week to demand the Senate vote no on the Continuing Resolution Budget Bill put a real human face on the harm that could come from the draconian, almost immediate budget cuts we face.
“Seeing children rock their school shirts and share how much they loved their schools. Hearing teachers and youth program leaders express their sadness about what could come if these devastating cuts happened left some Senate aides from both sides of the aisle in tears about the terrible predicament this CR is pitting the District in. It tells me that our collective community mobilization efforts throughout the week made a real difference,” said Kimberly Perry, DC Action Executive Director. “While some in Congress may be engaged in political theatre, I want to be clear: people’s lives are at stake here. The devastating impact of this CR could set us back for years.”
No matter the outcome of today’s vote, DC Action will continue to organize and mobilize alongside our partners at the local and federal levels to oppose policies that attack District children, youth, and families and undermine our self-determination. We now call on Mayor Bowser and the DC Council to safeguard our budget and the funding necessary to enable our children to thrive.
